IMP is delighted to introduce our new Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee, a group of internationally respected researchers, clinicians and patient experts who will help guide our work and strengthen our impact for the mitochondrial community worldwide.

This Committee will advise the IMP Board on scientific and medical priorities, including research projects we should support and the accuracy of information we share with our members. They will also serve as a trusted point of reference for questions from the community, the media and other stakeholders.

Members are elected for their leadership in mitochondrial disease, their commitment to IMP’s mission and their willingness to support public engagement, research communication and advocacy. Chaired by Prof Amal Kara, the committee will help coordinate activity and ensure smooth collaboration. Most work will take place through email, with virtual meetings held when needed.

By bringing world‑class expertise directly into IMP’s structure, this Committee marks an exciting step forward. It strengthens our ability to evaluate research, support innovation and ensure that patient needs remain at the heart of everything we do. We are grateful to the members of the committee for their time, input and guidance.
