Mitochondrial Awareness Week 2025: 1.5million reached!!
This September, our community united for World Mitochondrial Disease Week, a celebration of green lights, sharing information, and increasing awareness. From 15 – 21 September, we reached an amazing 1.5 million people, triple the reach of 2023 and nearly double 2024!

Social media interactions soared to 175,210, while website visits climbed to 14,704, a threefold increase on last year. Video content proved especially powerful, with more than 1 million plays and 33,000 completions, underscoring the impact of storytelling in raising awareness.
The Light Up for Mito campaign was our brightest yet, with 289 landmarks worldwide glowing green in solidarity. From iconic skylines to local town halls to bedroom windows, each light symbolised hope and connection for those living with mitochondrial disease.
On LHON Awareness Day, experts explored the vital link between nutrition and mitochondrial health in a well‑attended webinar.
Meanwhile, TK2d Awareness Day featured a moving video of lived experiences from Lisa, Aneesa, and Viviane, translated into multiple languages and already reaching hundreds of viewers.
Together, we’ve proven the power of collective action. Thank you to everyone who illuminated landmarks, shared stories, and engaged online. Your advocacy drives awareness, research, and hope. Let’s carry this momentum forward — because together, we are stronger.
